Dental emergencies can happen when you least expect them, and we know how unsettling it can be when your child is experiencing pain or has suffered an injury to their mouth. At Sugar Bugs Wellness Dentistry, we’re here to provide calm, compassionate care when your family needs it most. Our goal is to relieve your child’s discomfort quickly while addressing the underlying problem with the same thoughtful, wellness approach we bring to all our dental care.
We understand that emergencies don’t always happen during regular office hours, and the uncertainty of not knowing how serious a situation is can add to your stress. That’s why we want you to know what constitutes a dental emergency and how we can help. Whether it’s sudden pain, a broken tooth, or an accident that’s affected your child’s mouth, we’re committed to providing timely, effective care that puts your child’s well-being first.
When your child complains of tooth pain, it’s natural to want immediate answers and relief. Toothaches can result from many causes—cavities, infection, trapped food, or even sinus pressure. We’ll carefully examine your child to determine what’s causing the discomfort and create a treatment plan that addresses the source of the pain, not just the symptoms.
Our approach focuses on providing gentle relief while respecting our wellness philosophy. We’ll explain what we’ve found and discuss options for managing pain and treating the underlying issue. Sometimes simple interventions bring significant relief, while other situations require more involved treatment. Either way, you’ll be fully informed and involved in decisions about your child’s care.
Children are active and adventurous, which sometimes leads to chipped, cracked, or broken teeth. The severity can range from minor chips that are primarily cosmetic to more significant breaks that expose the inner layers of the tooth and cause pain.
When you bring your child in with a damaged tooth, we’ll assess the extent of the injury and determine the best course of action. Small chips can often be smoothed or repaired with tooth-colored bonding material. More significant breaks may require additional treatment to protect the tooth and prevent further damage or infection. We use metal-free, biocompatible materials whenever possible, ensuring that repairs are both effective and aligned with your family’s health values.
If your child loses a filling or crown, the exposed tooth can become sensitive and vulnerable to further damage or decay. While this situation may not always cause immediate pain, it’s important to address it promptly to protect the tooth.
We can often replace lost fillings or crowns during a single visit, restoring both function and comfort. If the tooth has changed or developed new decay since the original restoration, we may need to adjust our approach. We’ll examine the tooth carefully and discuss the best solution for your child’s specific situation.
Dental infections and abscesses require prompt attention, as they can cause significant discomfort and potentially affect your child’s overall health. Signs of infection might include swelling, persistent pain, sensitivity to temperature, or a bad taste in the mouth.
We treat infections with a combination of appropriate clinical intervention and, when necessary, natural supportive therapies that align with wellness principles. Our priority is to eliminate the infection, relieve pain, and preserve the tooth whenever possible. We’ll explain the treatment process thoroughly and ensure you understand how to support your child’s healing at home.
Accidents that result in knocked-out teeth, severe bleeding, or injuries to the jaw or soft tissues of the mouth require immediate care. If your child experiences significant dental trauma, contact us right away for guidance on what to do before you arrive at our office.
Time is often critical in dental trauma cases, particularly with knocked-out permanent teeth. We’ll do everything possible to save the tooth and address any associated injuries with skill and compassion, helping your child through what can be a frightening experience.
We want to be clear that our emergency dental services are available to existing patients of Sugar Bugs Wellness Dentistry. This policy allows us to provide the highest level of care because we already know your child’s dental history, their specific needs, and your family’s preferences.
Having an established relationship means we can respond more effectively in emergencies, making decisions based on comprehensive knowledge of your child’s health rather than working from incomplete information. If you’re not yet a patient but are interested in establishing care with our practice, we’d be happy to schedule a new patient appointment during regular office hours.
When emergencies arise, we’re here for the families who trust us with their ongoing care—ready to respond with expertise, calm, and the personalized attention your child deserves.
I love bringing my kids here. It’s worth the drive from Idaho Falls so my kids can have a good experience going to the dentist. Dr. Bybee is very good with the kids and she is very informative. Love that a wellness approach is taken here. My kids love the prizes at the end which make for a good experience for them to want to come back. There are also tv’s on the ceiling at each station for the kids to watch Disney plus.
Have taken several of my children to see Dr. Morgen Bybee. She is great with children! She explains everything she plans to do with us before hand and the kids just love her. They’ve got a play area and lots of TVs on the ceiling for the kids to watch while they’re in the chair. The staff and assistants are all very kind. Best Peds Dentist in town!
