At Sugar Bugs Welness Dentistry, we believe that exceptional dental care begins with truly understanding your child’s complete oral health picture. Our comprehensive wellness exam goes far beyond checking for cavities—it’s a thoughtful, thorough assessment designed to identify potential concerns early and create a foundation for lifelong wellness.
When you bring your child to our practice, you’re choosing a partner in their health journey. We take the time to look at how all the systems in the mouth and airway work together, because we know that oral health is deeply connected to overall well-being. Our approach is rooted in prevention, education, and empowering you with the knowledge you need to make informed decisions for your child’s care.
Your child’s mouth tells a story about their overall health, and we’re here to listen carefully to what it’s saying. During our whole-health assessment, we examine not just teeth and gums, but also how your child’s oral structures are developing, how they’re breathing, and how their jaw is functioning.
We understand that every child is unique, with their own growth patterns and needs. That’s why we take a personalized approach, considering factors like diet, habits, sleep quality, and even posture—all of which can impact oral health in meaningful ways. Our goal is to see the complete picture so we can support your child’s development holistically.
This comprehensive view allows us to identify connections you might not expect. For example, we might notice signs that suggest your child isn’t getting restful sleep, or that certain habits are affecting their dental development. By recognizing these patterns early, we can guide you toward solutions that support not just their smile, but their overall quality of life.
One of the most important—and often overlooked—aspects of pediatric dental care is airway health. How your child breathes affects everything from their sleep quality to their facial development, and even their behavior and academic performance.
During our airway assessment, we carefully evaluate whether your child is breathing optimally through their nose, or if there are signs of mouth breathing or airway restriction. We look at the size and position of the tonsils and adenoids, the shape of the palate, and how the jaw is developing. These factors all play a role in ensuring your child can breathe easily and get the restorative sleep they need to thrive.
When airway issues go unaddressed, they can contribute to problems like snoring, restless sleep, bed-wetting, difficulty concentrating, and even changes in facial growth patterns. The good news is that when we identify these concerns early, there are gentle, effective ways to support healthy airway development. We’ll take the time to explain what we’re observing and discuss options that make sense for your family, always respecting your pace and preferences.

Tongue ties and lip ties—restrictive tissues that limit movement of the tongue or upper lip—are more common than many parents realize, and they can affect everything from nursing and speech development to dental health and breathing.
During this part of the exam, we carefully assess the mobility of your child’s tongue and lips, looking at how well they can move and function. Restrictions can sometimes contribute to challenges with feeding, speech articulation, oral hygiene, or even jaw development.
If we identify a tongue tie or lip tie, we’ll help you understand what this means for your child and what options are available. Some restrictions don’t require any intervention, while others may benefit from treatment. We’ll never rush you into a decision—instead, we’ll provide you with information, answer your questions, and support you in choosing the path that feels right for your child and family.
At Sugar Bugs Wellness Dentistry, our comprehensive wellness exam is about building a relationship with your family and creating a roadmap for your child’s long-term oral health. We’re here to guide, educate, and support you every step of the way.
I love bringing my kids here. It’s worth the drive from Idaho Falls so my kids can have a good experience going to the dentist. Dr. Bybee is very good with the kids and she is very informative. Love that a wellness approach is taken here. My kids love the prizes at the end which make for a good experience for them to want to come back. There are also tv’s on the ceiling at each station for the kids to watch Disney plus.
Have taken several of my children to see Dr. Morgen Bybee. She is great with children! She explains everything she plans to do with us before hand and the kids just love her. They’ve got a play area and lots of TVs on the ceiling for the kids to watch while they’re in the chair. The staff and assistants are all very kind. Best Peds Dentist in town!
